I am a DC-based artist, currently working in a studio full time. Originally from Missouri, I began my art education at the Washington Studio School and am currently enrolled in the MFA program at American University.

With an interest in wildlife conservation, I decided to do a series on oil spills, taking inspiration from the photos of pelicans coated in oil taken from the BP oil disaster in the Gulf. I also referenced firsthand knowledge from my father who helped clean up the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

Raised in the Ozarks, I find inspiration in representing the natural world. In my series Animalia, I meld my interest in wildlife with the logic of abstract painting, and represent animals that are both dynamic and well adapted to their pictorial surroundings.

My artist journey started as a watercolorist, and I have always felt at home with water-based media. Even as I focused in oil, I looked for ways to make oil paint act in a more liquid way. This series is my attempt to make oil paint flow like water. I used mostly diluted oil paint, and acrylic.

Portraits have always been an essential part of my practice. I have used portraiture to further my own artistic practice, and to create fun paintings for friends. If you are interested in a commission, shoot me an email.
